EC3/Artsweek is hiring two positions to assist with the planning and execution of Artsweek 2022. Both positions are funded in part by Canada Summer Jobs, and so are only available to candidates aged 15 to 30 at the start of employment.

Artsweek Associate Stage Manager and Technical Director

Job Description

“Artsweek” (AW) is a biennial arts festival produced and presented by the Electric City Culture Council (EC3). Reporting directly to the Artsweek 2022 Artistic Producer and EC3 Program Coordinator, the employee will perform a variety of administrative and production duties supporting the planning and delivery of a nine-day, multi-disciplinary arts festival in the City of Peterborough. This is a hands-on job, developing and managing site specific events as part of the festival.

Duties

  • Supporting the Artsweek 2022 Artistic Producer in event planning, production activities (workplans and schedules) and administrative record-keeping (mapping, permits, site discovery, etc.) for the festival’s 30+ events
  • Organizing venues and amenities such as seating, signage, tech, safety protocols, etc.
  • Liaison with Council for Persons with Disabilities on accessibility of AW venues and events
  • Training and management of AW volunteers
  • Organizing stage management and additional staffing for AW events
  • General production management support, including: receiving and delivering contracts, managing collection and deposit of donations, updating budgets, filing and printing
  • Developing and maintaining Artsweek photo/video documentation and archives
  • Assisting with program analytics and evaluation
  • Planning and organizing festival follow-up, returns, thanks yous, etc.
  • Supporting stewardship of event sponsors, including outreach and communication, assembling sponsor gifts, and organizing VIP events

Qualifications

  • Ability to take initiative, plan and organize projects from beginning to end
  • Good writing and communications skills
  • Good practical judgement, flexibility, and ability to multitask
  • Ability to work effectively independently, as well as in a team
  • Attention to detail and strong strategic foresighting capacity

Assets

  • Passion for and knowledge of the arts and the Peterborough community
  • Ability to work from a home office
  • Access to cellphone and laptop/desktop computer
  • Valid Ontario driver’s licence and regular access to a vehicle

Job Description

“Artsweek” (AW) is a biennial arts festival produced and presented by the Electric City Culture Council (EC3). This job offers an opportunity to work directly with the Artsweek Festival Artistic Producer, EC3 staff, skilled volunteers and Board members to assist in the design, development and delivery of an Audience Development and Outreach Campaign for the 2022 festival, including a strategic outreach campaign to marginalized communities who have specific barriers to accessing arts and culture experiences and opportunities in Peterborough. This project aims to create a high-profile, vibrant picture of the Artsweek 2022 Festival and change up the audience profile. The Audience Development Campaign and Outreach includes:
  • Enhancing the profile of Artsweek 2022 and increasing audience participation in the festival’s 30+ events through the development and delivery of a comprehensive marketing and communications plan
  • Developing marketing initiatives that will connect arts and culture organizations with each other, breaking down silos and building networks and bridges to broaden public inclusion in the festival at a variety of unexpected locations and across cultural and social divides.
  • Creating specific vehicles, cross-sector networks and opportunities, and adopting tools and approaches for effective engagement and inclusion that welcome the following groups into festival activities: persons with disabilities, newcomers to Canada, Indigenous peoples, members of visual/racialized minorities, youth, LGBTQ2+ community, people with social or employment barriers including literacy and numeracy and mental health challenges.

Duties

  • Coordinating and executing special events in the community, including at Trent University and Fleming College, farmers’ markets, other major community festivals and events, and other ‘non-traditional’ locations
  • Outreach to local community nonprofits, service organizations, First Nations, and community clubs
  • Organizing media conferences (media kits, teasers etc.) and social media campaigns including promotional contests
  • Planning, development, and execution of social media campaigns on multiple platforms leading up to and throughout the festival, including elements such as video, photography, writing, and live-streaming of events
  • Monitoring and engaging on social media throughout the event to increase community engagement and visibility
  • Developing on-site promotional tools and peripheral marketing tools
  • Supporting the production of video documentation and promotional vehicles
  • Participating in the planning of special events to engage a broader public and promote awareness, as well as other customized strategies including workshops, tours, enhanced cultural passports, relaxed performance toolkits, etc. for target groups
  • Providing assistance for design and delivery of these campaigns across multiple digital, broadcast/narrowcast and print platforms (developing plans, editing text, sourcing and selecting photos, establishing release schedules, making videos, managing databases, organizing volunteers) and documenting and archiving campaign materials in both digital and print formats.
